Main Features
Cast and extruded PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) is a thermal plastic material which is hard, colourless, and exceptionally clear. It is also available in a wide range of colours, making it suitable to transmit and diffuse light and colour. As PMMA is resistant to numerous aggressive chemicals, it has a become a mainstay plastic and is often used for its excellent light properties and resistance to various climate conditions. PPMA sheets are processed and shaped using a wide range of industrial, craftsman and artistic processes.
Differences
In order to obtain a quality product it is important to note that these two materials differ in their characteristics and performance. Cast PPMA offers an almost infinite choice of thicknesses. Extruded PPMA is produced with 13 thicknesses, ranging from 1.5 to 20 mm. Cast PPMA production process implies slight depth variations, while in extruded PMMA these are extremely small to inexistent. The heat performance of Cast PPMA is isotropic, with 2% maximum contraction in all directions, while extruded PPMA has variable contractions depending on the thickness and direction of extrusion.
Applications
Cast and extruded PMMA sheets can be applied in many sectors, such as:
